Coloured Bulbs
Coloured bulbs make a great difference to the appearance of the car, even just a coloured interior bulb can make the car stand out from others. These bulbs can be purchased from most car accessory shops, however, they are only available in certain colours and of certain shapes and sizes. This can be a bit annoying if you can't get the particular colour or bulb type that you want to change. I have a solution though, craft shops and glass paint. Glass paint is available in far more colours that anyone will ever need and can be used to colour bulbs, although a bit of trial and error is required to get exactly what you want. There are two main different types of paint on offer: Solvent-based and Water-based, of which the water-based tends to produce a better colour. I bought some blue solvent-based and it looked fine until I turned the bulbs on and then they lit up purple, an idea for anyone who wants purple bulbs that are actually purple and not dark pink. Best results are found if you use about 3 coats of paint and let it dry thoroughly before applying each coat and before using the bulb, otherwise the paint is likely to burn off.
Another idea is to use just one coat of "Marine Blue" glass paint on any bulb to produce that very faintly blue look that you get with the "daylight" bulbs.
A Word Of Warning:
Do not under any circumstances attempt to paint headlight bulbs or fog/spotlight bulbs. The paint will burn off immediately and more then likely ruin the bulbs (oh the stupid things I've tried in the past!).
