Fitting a Second Rear Fog Light

You will need:

With the Mk2 and Mk1 Fiesta the rear fog lights are mounted below the bumper and are secured from inside the car by plastic thumb nuts. The only model that came with two fog lights as standard was the XR2, but they all look a lot better if the rear end is made to look symmetrical by adding a second fog to the other models.

This is far more simple to do than it sounds. With the Mk2 if you still have the original boot pan then, on the passenger side there should be three small indents in the panel matching the holes for the fog light on the drivers side. All you do is drill these indents out into holes. The outer two are for the securing bolts and are 5mm diameter, whereas the "off-centre" middle hole is for the cable and needs to be around 10mm to 14mm depending on how big the power connector for your light is (as the connector needs to be passed through this hole).

Although not relevant to the fitting, it is interesting to note that these indents are in fact not due to the XR2 having a second fog light, but because on continental Fiesta's the fog light is on the opposite side. The XR2 does in fact have a different rear boot panel to all the other models as it has a bulge to take the wider spare wheel.

If you don't have any indents then don't despair. The process is only slightly more complicated. All you need to do is get a sheet of paper and line it up with the bottom of the boot floor. Measure how far in from the edge of the car the right hand mounting hole is and then mark out the same distance across on the passenger side. Using the sheet of paper line up the left hand mounting hole with the mark you have made on the boot floor, and making sure that the paper is level mark where the other holes need to go. All you need to do now is carefully centre-punch the marks where the holes need to go and drill them out.

The wiring is just as simple as the mounting of the light. Go to the scrap yard and cut the fog light connector out of another Fiesta, then matching up the colours with the already fitted light, add the new connector in parallel with the existing one. This can be done using crimp terminals or by soldering the wires together and heat shrinking or wrapping insulation tape around the joint. Make sure the joint is secure and well insulated, and there you go, job done.
